BEATLICK JOE SPEER

(1948-2011)
Beatlick Joe Speer, publisher of “Beatlick News: A Poetry and Arts Newsletter,” came out of the great Southwest. He graduated from New Mexico State University in 1970 with a degree in Literature. An iconic and itinerant raconteur of the highest order, Joe loved to travel with his chauffer/girlfriend Pamela Adams Hirst. Living out of a 1977 VW camper, they visited ancient sites, wilderness areas, remote hot springs, ghost towns and decommissioned forts from the Indian wars.
Joe continuously documented his pursuit of poetry on the back roads of literature. His unique style, imagery and delivery set him apart as a performance poet. No modern media escaped his influence: community access television, radio, short film, DVDs, CDs, MP3s, even YOUTube. Now “Backpack Trekker: A 6os Flashback” is his final legacy as be begins his trek across the universe.
