AN INTERACTIVE WORKSHOP FOR EMERGING STARS
A WRITING WORKSHOP WITH MARTHA EGAN
In this interactive writing workshop with Martha Egan participants will explore what makes someone a writer. Are you a writer? What makes you a writer?
Are you a reader? Why do you read? What do you read?
Can you become a writer? Even if you don’t read? Why do you want to be a writer?
What do you like to write? Writing is a skill as well as a talent, one you can always improve.
Does grammar matter? Does punctuation?
Do you want to get published? Egan will discuss the ins and out of publishing.
The workshop will last an hour and a half and is open to anyone over 12. The workshop is limited to 25 people. Cost is $7.
Workshop participants will need paper, a pen, a journal if they choose.
Handouts include: “The Basics; “Resources for Writers (suggested reference books);”“Suggested Reading;” and “My Dog Story (the difference between “lay” and “lie”).”
MARTHA EGAN
“I always intended to get serious about writing fiction at some point,” says author Martha Egan. “But it took a hideous experience with US Customs to force me into it.” Her semi-autobiographical first novel, Clearing Customs, was named Fiction Book of the Year for 2005 by OnLine Review of Books & Current Affairs. Her next novel, Coyota, won a Bronze Ippy Award for Mountain-West Best Regional Fiction in 2008 from the Independent Publishers Association.
Her non-fiction books, Milagros: Votive Offerings from the Americas, (1991) and Relicarios: Devotional Miniatures from the Americas, (1994) were published by the Museum of New Mexico Press.
Since 1976 she has been an importer and dealer of Latin American folk art through her gallery, Pachamama, on Canyon Road in Santa Fe. She holds a BA in Latin American History from the University of the Americas in Mexico City and was a Peace Corps volunteer in Venezuela. She grew up in northeastern Wisconsin and is a rabid Packer fan. |
